The Asian Studies program at Skidmore invites students to explore Asia through interdisciplinary lenses encompassing anthropology, gender studies, history, language and literature, sociology, religious studies, political science and international affairs, music, English, and visual and performing arts. Students engage in collaborative and independent projects and work with professors in cutting edge research.
Major and Minor
The Asian Studies major and minor introduces students to the diverse cultures and people of Asia. Students are required to complete a combination of gateway courses, language classes, electives, with the option to study abroad. must complete 33 credit hours and must complete 18 credit hours. Faculty
The Asian Studies Program faculty consists of accomplished professors who have authored numerous publications addressing topics such as political history, development and economy, war and peace, ecologies and environmentalism, pop culture, and more. Our faculty are excited to work with students to help them develop a greater understanding of Asia and its diversities and complexities.

With programs spanning across Japan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, South Korea, Nepal, Bhutan, and Thailand, finding the right fit is easy. Outcomes
As an interdisciplinary program, students with a major or minor in Asian Studies can engage in multiple career options ranging from international affairs, journalism, political science and public policy, arts, global health, and many other careers that encourage connections between Asia and the global community. With the growing influence of Asia on the world, students who major or minor in Asian Studies will be prepared to face new challenges, present diverse perspectives, and contribute to the expansion of transnational communication.
